“Ankawa Christmas” Festival Organising Committee Meets Erbil Governor

On Tuesday 19 November 2024, A delegation from the Fourth Ankawa Christmas Festival’s Organising Committee, headed by the Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts, Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, visited the Erbil Governorate Diwan and met with Governor Omed Khoshnaw, to determine the festival’s needs and the means to ensure its success.

During the meeting, Khoshnaw stressed his “full support for the success of such events that highlight the diversity of components in the governorate, through the ongoing cooperation between the Governorate Diwan and the Region’s Culture and YouthMinistry,” noting in his speech that “Ankawa was and still is a destination for the Christian presence in the East, not just in the Kurdistan Region.”

The delegation’s members, which included representatives of civil society organisations participating in the festival, expressed their deep thanks and appreciation to the Governor during their visit to him for his continuous support for youth and cultural activities and events held in Ankawa.

It is worth mentioning that the Ankawa Christmas Festival is the largest Christmas festival held annually for Christians in Ankawa and our people’s various regions, attracting thousands of Christians from within the country and from the diaspora in Europe, Australia and America, as it is organised under the auspices of the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts with the participation of a number of youth and social civil society organisations. This year, it will continue for 12 days during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
