The General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts in the Kurdistan Regional Government mourns the legend of Syriac singing, the great artist Evin Agassi, who passed away to heavenly pastures on the morning of Wednesday 18 September 2024, at the age of 79, due to a terminal illness that did not give him much time.
The General Directorate, represented by its Director General, its cadres and employees, extends its sincere condolences and sympathy to his family, loved ones, fans and our people’s artistic family for the loss of a great legend and the owner of a golden throat that distinguished his artistic works, praying to God to have mercy on the deceased in his heavenly kingdom and to inspire his family with patience and solace.
Evin Agassi was born in Kermanshah, Iran, and began his singing career when he was 27 years old. He wrote and composed most of his songs with his brother, Givargis Agassi.
Artist Evin Agassi, born on 25 September 1945, was one of our people’s most famous and productive singers. He released 20 albums during his artistic career, and his latest release was in 2017, titled “45 Years.”
Agassi was famous for his songs that deal with the themes of freedom, nationalism, love and romance. He lived a rich artistic life that has spanned more than 50 years, leaving behind a deep imprint on Sureth music.
Last July, Evin Agassi’s family announced that the artist had been diagnosed with a malignant tumor in the left frontal lobe of his brain that was inoperable.
