For Second Year… Syriac Cultural Directorate Documents Annual Activities in New Book

For the second year in a row, the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts issued a new book documenting its most prominent achievements and the distinguished activities that it organised during the year 2023.

The first page of the book features an opening statement by the Director General, Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, in which he touches upon the General Directorate’s achievements over the past year, despite all the circumstances and financial crises facing the Region and the wider area, but with our people’s support, that of the Regional Government and the Culture Ministry, and the efforts of the Directorate’s cadres, the Directorate was able to end 2023 more brilliantly then before.

In his statement, Oghanna explains that the Directorate achieved the launch of the first Syriac Theatre Festival, which witnessed the participation of Syriac theatrical and artistic groups from the homeland and neighboring countries, and became a distinguished turning point in the Directorate’s journey during the past year.

Oghanna confirms that the Directorate has launched the second phase of the project “Preserving the Cultural Heritage of Minorities in Iraq,” which represents a major achievement for the Syriac Heritage Museum. He concludes his speech by promising readers that 2024 will be a year full of intellectual, artistic and cultural activity, which will witness great interest in the file of diversity, which is a characteristic distinctive for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

It is worth noting that the book was prepared by the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts’ Media Department, and comprises 254 large pages in Syriac, Kurdish, Arabic and English, with colorful pictures of the activities that distinguished the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts during the past year.
