On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, Mr. Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts, participated in a seminar organized by the Syriac League in Lebanon to mark its 50th anniversary. The event took place at the Habtoor Hotel in Beirut under the title: “Achievements and Lessons: How to Preserve Freedom and Diversity in the East.”
The seminar gathered a distinguished group of Christian figures from various countries in the region, including Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, and Egypt. Among the most prominent attendees was the well-known Egyptian businessman Najib Sawiris.
In his speech, Oghanna highlighted the efforts of the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts, along with its affiliated institutions, in preserving the heritage of the Syriac people and protectfrom extinction. He also emphasized its role in promoting and enriching the Syriac cultural scene in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
He stressed the importance of unity among Christians in the East, which would allow them to benefit from the achievements made across the region. He affirmed that Christians in the East should aim for genuine participation in decision-making processes. At the same time, he called for greater openness and joint action with all components of society.
It is worth noting that the Syriac League was established in 1975 to represent the Syriac community in Lebanon and is a founding member of the World Syriac Union.
