On Saturday 9 December 2023, a delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts, which included Director General Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna and Director of the Syriac Heritage and Museum Bernard Youssef, visited the Nabu Museum in the Batroun area of northern Lebanon, where they were received by the founder of the museum, Lebanese businessman Jawad Adra.
Adra accompanied the delegation during its tour through the corridors of the museum and the library it contains, in addition to the center for the maintenance and restoration of old photographs and books. During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the history and reasons for building the museum, as well as the collectables it contains, in addition to learning about its various activities, including seminars and lectures, that are held in it, and the research studies that are undertaken in it by university students.
During the visit, they talked about the culture and heritage of our people in the Levant, as well as ways to establish joint cultural activities and projects.
It is worth noting that the museum building was designed by the Iraqi sculptor Diaa Al-Azzawi and the Iraqi-Canadian artist Mahmoud Al-Obaidi, and the name “Nabu” was chosen in reference to the god of writing and wisdom among the ancient Iraqis, which was also present among the ancient peoples of Lebanon, especially the Phoenicians.
