The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts, Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, received artist Wasim Thaer Khidhr, who had won the “Promising Artist” award at the First Syriac Theatre Festival held during last December 14-16, at the directorate’s building in Ankawa District Centre on Sunday 7 January 2024.
During the visit, which was attended by the festival’s president, theatre critic and novelist Sabah Hormuz al-Shani, the young Wasim Thaer was honoured with the “Promising Artist” trophy, in gratitude and appreciation for his promising theatrical role and performance in the play “Mim,” in which he had participated.
The management of the inaugural Syriac Theatre Festival had decided to award the “Promising Actor” award to Wassem Thaer Khidhr for the play “Mim,” which was presented by the Institute of Fine Arts (Qaraqosh), scenario and direction by Wisam Nouh Boutros, and performed by Khalid Majeed Tobia, Rama Basem Bashir, and Wasim Thaer Khidhr.
It is worth noting that the inaugural Syriac Theatre Festival was launched in Ankawa district centre on Thursday 14 December 2023, in the presence of a large group of Iraqi, Kurdish and Syriac artists and playwrights, at the hall of the Chaldean Culture Society in Ankawa.
