On the evening of Monday 10 June 2024, the Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region met with an elite group of writers and intellectuals from our people in the diaspora, during a dinner held in his honour in the city of Melbourne, in the Australian state of Victoria.
The banquet, which was held by the Yonan Hozaya Center for Research and Future Studies in cooperation with the Suraya Cultural Forum, witnessed the participation and attendance of an elite group of thinkers, writers, intellectuals and artists from our people residing in Australia.
During the meeting, Oghanna stressed the importance of communication between the homeland and diaspora to advance the Syriac cultural scene, as he touched on the activities and festivals held by the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts in the homeland, especially the First Athra Syriac Symposium, which the Directorate is preparing to hold next September in Erbil Governorate’s Ankawa District.
The intellectuals and thinkers who attended the banquet praised the events and activities sponsored by the Directorate, stressing that they constitute a qualitative shift in the Syriac cultural scene in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
It is worth noting that the Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts, Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, is visiting the Australian city of Melbourne at the official invitation of the Yonan Hozaya Center for Research and Future Studies and the Suraya Cultural Forum, to talk about the cultural and artistic scene of our people in the homeland, through a number of events and meetings that bring him together with our expatriate people in Australia.
