Theater critic and novelist Sabah Hormuz Al-Shani announced that the Ankawa district in Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, will witness, during the days 14 to 16 of next December, the launch of the activities of the First Syriac Theater Festival, which is being held by the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts.
Al-Shani, who chairs the festival, confirmed that its activities will include presenting Syriac theatrical performances from our people’s various regions, as well as organizing seminars and discussions on Syriac theatre, its history and reality, during the three days of the festival.
The festival president pointed out the presence of a distinguished elite of Iraqi and Kurdistani theater stars and pioneers, as well as Syriac ones.
He pointed out that the festival will honor a number of those distinguished in their theatrical contributions, led by the great expatriate artist Romeo Yousif.
Al-Shani pointed out that the participating plays will compete for the festival’s prizes, and concluded by saying: “The jury, headed by the Director General of the Cinema and Theater Department at the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, will announce the winners at the conclusion of the festival.”
