On Wednesday 10 July 2024, the Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, received a delegation from the Kinnara Syriac Orchestra in Bakhdida, headed by Fr, Duraid Barbar, at the directorate building in Ankawa District Centre.
The visit came to appreciate the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts’ efforts in supporting the Kinnara Orchestra and hosting it to perform its concert, which was held on the 26th of last June, on the occasion of World Music Day, at the Culture Ministry’s Peshawa Hall in Erbil.
Oghanna stressed during the meeting that the General Directorate will continue to support our people’s musical activities, especially the Kinnara Orchestra, which has taken upon itself the responsibility of preserving Syriac music and transmitting it to subsequent generations.
It is worth noting that the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region hosted the Kinnara Syriac Orchestra, in cooperation with Erbil’s General Directorate of Culture and Arts, through a concert held on the occasion of World Music Day, which falls on June 21 of each year.
