On Saturday 15 June 2024, the Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, visited the Assyrian Church of the East’s Patriarchal Vicar General, Metropolitan of the Dioceses of Australia, New Zealand, and Lebanon, Mar Meelis Zaia, accompanied by a delegation from the Yonan Hozaya Center for Research and Future Studies, which included Adib Goga, Adil Danno and Medhat al-Bazi.
The two parties talked about the Syriac cultural reality in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, in addition to discussing the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts’s activities in the various areas where our people are present in the homeland.
While Oghanna praised Mar Meelis Zaia’s work in supporting the education process in the mother tongue and establishing schools for our people in Australia, he stressed that the General Directorate’s doors are open to cooperation with all our people’s individuals and institutions in Iraq and the diaspora, to enhance the cultural reality and support the education process in the mother tongue, as well as its development in the homeland and abroad.
It is worth noting that the Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts, Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, is visiting Australia at the official invitation of the Yonan Hozaya Center for Research and Future Studies and the Suraya Cultural Forum, to discuss our people’s cultural and artistic scene in the homeland, through a number of events and meetings that bring him together with our expatriate people there.
