The Syriac Arts Ensemble, affiliated with the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, participated in the activities of the Eighth Annual Akitu Cultural Festival, which was held under the patronage of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani in the Nineveh Governorate’s Ba’shiqah district, for the period from 25 to 26 April 2024, and under the slogan: “Akitu, Authenticity and Renewal.”
The festival’s activities included poetry recitals, exhibitions of Syriac calligraphy, paintings, and cultural publications, lectures on the theme of the National New Year (Akitu), as well as Syriac folkloric artistic shows presented by the Syriac Arts Ensemble, which were well received by the audience.
It is worth noting that the Eighth Akitu Cultural Festival was jointly organised by the Syriac Culture Office of the General Union of Writers and Authors in Iraq and the Union of Syriac Writers and Authors.
