Syriac Cultural Directorate Hosted by the Antonine Order of St. Hormisdas in Ankawa

On Sunday 3 March 2024, a delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts visited the General Complex of the Chaldean Catholic Antonine Order of St. Hormisdas in Ankawa District Centre, where they were received by the Order’s General Superior, Abbot Dr. Samer Sorisho Yohanna, and Director of the Syriac Manuscripts Center Fr. Youssef Yono Samaan Ajam.

During their visit, the delegation toured the corridors of the monastic complex and viewed its departments and the library it contains, as well as learning about its activities, in order to discuss the possibility of joint cooperation and establishing joint cultural projects.

Oghanna stressed that the doors of the Directorate are open for cooperation with all cultural, artistic and social institutions related to the Syriac culture and language.

The Directorate’s delegation included Director General Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, Director of Syriac Heritage and Museum Bernard Youssef, and a number of the Directorate’s employees.

It is worth noting that the Chaldean Antonine Order of St. Hormisdas was founded by Abbot Gabriel Danbo in 1808, and was established as a monastic organisation with its own laws by Pope Gregory XVI on 26 September 1845.
