The General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts, represented by its General Director, staff, and employees, extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to investigative journalist and human rights activist Nuri Kino, who is currently based in Sweden, on winning the 2025 Kavian Prize. He received the award in recognition of his dedicated efforts to support oppressed communities and displaced people around the world.
Kino comes from a refugee family of our people originally from Turkey, which later settled in Sweden. He is well known for his passionate defense of the rights of ethnic and religious minorities, as well as victims of war. In 2014, he founded the organization A Demand for Action in response to the genocide committed by ISIS against Christians, Yazidis, and other minorities in Iraq and Syria.
The Kavian Prize, established in 2012, is awarded annually to individuals and organizations that have shown outstanding commitment in the fields of peace, environmental sustainability, culture, science, and advocacy for marginalized groups, including the homeless.
