Syriac Culture Directorate Congratulates Poet Aref Al-Saadi on His Election as President of the General Union of Writers in Iraq

The General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts, along with its administration, staff, and employees, extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to poet Dr. Aref Al-Saadi and to the Central Council of the General Union of Writers in Iraq on the occasion of Dr. Al-Saadi’s election as the Union’s new president. The election took place during the Council’s meeting held yesterday, Friday, and resulted in the election of poet Aref Al-Saadi as President and poet Omar Al-Sarrai as Secretary-General.

While congratulating Dr. Al-Saadi, the Directorate also wishes him great success in this noble cultural journey. It expresses confidence that he will lead this important cultural institution with integrity and dedication, given his strong voice for diversity and his sincere commitment to the written word. Dr. Al-Saadi has always shown genuine support for Syriac writers and their rich cultural heritage.

Dr. Aref Al-Saadi is an Iraqi poet, born in Baghdad in 1975. He holds a degree in Modern Arabic Literature, earned in 2007. In the same year, he published a critical book titled The Poetics of the Everyday, in which he discussed the poetry of Adnan Al-Sayegh.

It is worth noting that the General Union of Writers in Iraq is a professional, cultural, non-governmental organization dedicated to Iraqi literary affairs. It was established in 1959 and is headquartered in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, with branches in various provinces.
