On Thursday 13 June 2024, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Transport and Communications Minister, Anu Jawhar Abdoka, praised the Director General of Syriac Culture and Arts, Kaldo Ramzi Oghanna, with a letter of thanks and appreciation in recognition of his efforts in adopting the Syriac language in the Directorate’s official correspondence with government departments and institutions in the Region.
The letter stated: “We extend to you, and through you to the staff of the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts in the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Culture Ministry, our thanks and appreciation for your reliance on the Syriac language in your official correspondence.”
Abdoka emphasised in the same letter, “This step demonstrates and confirms the wise leadership of President Masoud Barzani and the instructions of the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister, Mr. Masrour Barzani, who emphasise preserving our language as a living language in which our people in the beloved Kurdistan Region and Mesopotamia write.”
It is worth noting that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts has recently begun adopting the Syriac language in its official communications with government departments and institutions in Ankawa district centre, as well as governmental institutions concerned with the Syriac language throughout the Region.
