The Kurdistan Regional Government’s General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts extends its congratulations to Syriac Dramatists, on the occasion of International Theatre Day, which the world celebrates on March 27 of each year.
On this occasion, the General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts confirms the advancement of Syriac theatre by revitalising its activities and working to reactivate its role by supporting our people’s talented young Dramatists. The Syriacs were the pioneers of the theatrical movement in the homeland and they are accredited for presenting the first theatrical show in Iraq, in the city of Mosul during the 19th century.
It is worth noting that World Theatre Day is celebrated around the world on March 27 of each year, and a number of activities and celebrations are held on this occasion. This day was initiated by the International Theatre Institute in 1961.
