The General Directorate of Syriac Culture and Arts has recently issued a new Syriac book by the poet and deacon Gorgis Nabati titled: “Ankawa in Poetry.”
Between its covers, the book contains a collection of poems that deal with many of the customs and traditions of our people in Ankawa, which have been inherited for several centuries. It depicts their joys and customs in their most beautiful images and truest meanings. Among them are religious occasions, for example, the marriage ritual, condolences and baptism, in addition to poems that narrate Ankawa’s social life, such as sports seasons.
The book also contains a collection of old photographs of moments documented by camera, paintings that indicate their time and retain their special tone in the form of faces and features, symbols, clothes and traditional costumes, schools and theaters. These all indicate the spirit of their time, a simplicity that has not yet been swept away by the rush of information.
The book comes in 48 medium-sized pages and bears number 74 in the series.
